These are some books that have been helpful to me as I have navigated my journey from the abuse through the aftereffects to find healing. I hope you will find them helpful, too. If you have any others to recommend, please let me know, and I'll try to add them as I can.
I wrote My Journey: Experiencing the Abuse, Navigating the Aftermath, Finding Hope and Healing to tell my story. I hope that you can draw strength, courage, and hope from knowing that you're not alone, that you're not the first to walk this awful path, and that you can make it. My pastoral counselor recommended The Hidden Jesus to me at a time when I was really struggling to figure out how a loving, omniscient, powerful God could allow such awful things to happen. Sadly, I'm not sure there are any totally satisfactory answers, but this book really helped me in that struggle.
Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman is a classic in the area of "why" repressed memories make sense. I struggled with whether or not the things I was remembering were true ... because I desperately did not want them to be true. If you're facing that struggle, I recommend this book as well as the next one.
Betrayal Trauma is another very good examination of the logic of forgetting. This book helped me understand what was going on.
The Body Remembers provides good insight into those "scary" feelings that sometimes catch us off guard.
I hope that you find whatever you need to help you on your journey to healing.
